Josh Maluta, former Neuqua Valley Wildcat ('07) and current Adrian College Bulldog lacrosse player, is currently in Australia with USA Athletes International. He was invited to be a member of the team which will represent the United States, both as players and ambassadors, to compete in the 2009 Lacrosse Down Under Cup Tournament in Melbourne , Australia, May 27 thru June 8, 2009. According to USAAI, “This event is an excellent opportunity for athletes to foster international goodwill and friendship among nations, while also promoting the game. With the exception of the US Olympic program there are few opportunities for athletes to experience the competition, history and culture of other countries on an international level.” He was one of 8 athletes making the trip. The tournament has teams from the US, Japan, and Australia playing for the title.
Josh will be a junior next year at Adrian College.
The MASCAC office today announced weekly awards for the week ending September 5, 2009. The league selected Eastern University senior Zach Rivest as
In Wednesday's 7-2 win at Manhattanville, Rivest recorded a season-high 17 stops. The Naperville, IL native continued his inspired performance with another strong outing at Misericordia on Saturday. Rivest held the Cougars to four goals while turning away 15 shots. For the week, the Eagles only gave up three goals at even strength.
Eastern Head Coach Brandon Childs was pleased to hear his goalie recognized for his work. "Zach had a great week. "Childs said, "He worked really hard this week on becoming a better leader for our defense, and it showed in his play."
Rivest is the second Eastern Men's Lacrosse player to earn recognition from the league this year. Senior Attack Nick Mandia was named Player of the Week earlier in the year. The Eagles will host Elizabethtown College in a critical conference contest on Thursday.
